Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games – A word from our CEO

In May 2017 the team at RGS Events successfully secured the contract to become the Official Furniture Supplier to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Our team worked closely with GOLDOC’s Material Planners and developed a number of new and innovative designs for the Gold Coast Games. Designs for Lockers and Utility Cabinets were updated, a new Master Key system introduced and the assembly time of items heavily scrutinized resulting in product enhancements. In keeping with GOLDOC’s Sustainability commitments, we continue reducing our packaging wherever possible and as part of our initiative, all of our manufactured products were packaged in recycled cardboard.

For the first time our logistics team developed a JIT (Just in Time) system for delivering sea containers directly to the Commonwealth Games Village on a daily basis straight from the container port. This effectively ensured that all the Village products bypassed the Warehouse saving considerably on space, vehicles and manpower thus significantly reducing costs to GOLDOC.

All our products for both Venues and the Athletes Village were delivered on-time well in advance of the Games. We sourced our FF&E from exceptional companies both internationally and locally and had secured exit routes (our Dissolution program) for everything four months out from the Opening Ceremony.

In late 2017 GOLDOC awarded a project management contract to RGS Events to assist with all the related planning for the Bump In and Bump Out of the Athletes Village – a total of 6,900 bed spaces plus various social spaces. Our highly experienced international team of Australians, Brits, Bulgarians and Brazilians did an amazing job and we are so proud of them.

The Games are now over and we are currently in the midst of Bump Out. Our team have received high praise and extremely positive feedback from various stakeholders who have once again endorsed our products, what we do and how we do it. From start to finish in under 12 months, RGS Events has again shown that ‘Experience Matters’.
