RGS to furnish Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games

Glasgow 2014 has struck a deal with London 2012 partner RGS (UK) Ltd, which will see the company become the official furniture provider of the Scottish city’s staging of the Commonwealth Games.

Having previously supplied fittings and equipment at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games, along with the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, RGS supplied a range of stock to London 2012 – from 80,000 folding chairs around the Olympic Park to furnishing almost 18,000 bedrooms at the Athletes’ Village. RSG received the London 2012 Sustainability Ambassadors Award earlier this year and, under the agreement with Glasgow 2014, large amounts of its Stratford stock will be relocated alongside newly manufactured items to address the needs of athletes, spectators and broadcasters.

Glasgow 2014 chief executive, David Grevemberg, said: “RGS will be providing Glasgow 2014 with 300,000 items, the vast majority of which were used at London 2012, and are currently being put into 350 shipping containers bound for Scotland. This is a tangible legacy from Glasgow 2014’s positive collaboration with London 2012 and we are delighted to welcome RGS to our sponsor family as official Games furniture provider. The group’s proven track record of supplying furniture to Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games in the past will put us in a great position to stage a fantastic athlete-centred, sport-focused Games in Glasgow in 2014.”

Paul Ramler, CEO at RGS, added: “Following on from our work with London 2012, we are delighted to be named as official Games furniture provider for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. This prestigious event will once again provide us with the opportunity to demonstrate our abilities to successfully manage large, multi-sport events to a world-class standard with sustainable outcomes.”
